Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, features a very nice boulevard along the shoreline, and has a number of interesting churches, mosques and other buildings. There is also a roman era excavation in the city center.
Scars from the civil war are still visible on many of the older buildings - these range from small weapons fire to huge artillery damage.
